Elements: Clay Pottery and Sculpture
I am currently working as a clay artist in Walnut Creek, California. My
work consists mainly of raku or salt fired pottery and sculpture. My work is stongly influenced by my vision of the
world around me and my exprience with, as well as my interpretation of, that
environment.
I am inspired by nature and it's textures, patterns and colors. My art
attempts to interpret the beauty and power of those natural images. The daily
interaction of water, wind, heat and earth continue to change our environment.
In a similar pattern, clay from the earth, water, air and fire are all involved in creating my
pottery and sculptures. Although aspects
of my work may be functional, it is more about form, shape, texture and their
relationships in a certain space. Most of the glazes and firing processes I
choose result in colors observed in the natural world. When I use recognizable
images in my clay, they are often associated with objects we experience when we
interact with nature.
